A brand new guitar playthrough video of Steffen Kummerer for the song “Septuagint” from progressive metal masters OBSCURA can be streamed below. The track is taken from the band’s album, “Omnivium”, which was released on March 29 2011 via Relapse Records. The album was made available in CD, 2xLP and as a digital download.
Founded in 2002 by Kummerer, OBSCURA caused a stir when it toured as support for the legendary SUFFOCATION on the band’s European tour in 2006 and independently released its debut album, “Retribution”, that same year. From its very beginnings, the band (named after GORGUTS‘ inimitable 1993 full-length) demonstrated an uncanny ability for blending different forms of technical, cerebral metal into a coherent synthesis of death, thrash and black metal merged with progressive elements.
“Omnivium” debuted at #11 on the USA’s Top Heatseekers chart, and at #14 on Germany’s Media Control Newcomer chart. Furthermore, within the first week the album sold 2000 copies the US.

“With BIAS FX as a desktop version a new tool to record riffs and spontaneous ideas on the road crossed my way some time ago. Especially the VST version as an insert within a DAW leaves you mannifold sounds, effects and possibilities to create demos within minutes. Thanks to PositiveGrid & BIAS FX, Obscura’s preproduction sound way closer to final compositions than before.” – Steffen Kummerer
Over the last several years, a range of high processing powered digital guitar effects and mobile guitar apps have changed the way millions of guitarists play and record. The question is how we can create new tools to maximize the sound quality with today’s technology.
The result is BIAS FX. It’s designed from the ground up with no-compromise mindset on sound quality, it comes with all the greatest and latest algorithms from our audio signal processing research, it provides significantly detailed and authentic emulation of analog pedals and studio racks, it has dual custom BIAS Amp Matchmodels integration and dual signal chain.
BIAS FX is equipped with the most advanced DSP sound engine with a beautifully designed interface, it’s seamlessly integrated with BIAS Amp Designer.
We then go beyond and create a cross-platform, amp-and-effects processor. Now for the first time, you can achieve high quality sound in the studio for recording and on iPad for live performance and practice.
A creative environment where musicians can explore, share and download thousands of amplifiers. The BIAS Ecosystem is literally endless tone possibilities to capture any amp tone in the world or design unique custom amps from the ground up and take them out to the studio or on tour, loaded on multiple platforms: heads, racks, desktop and mobile devices, seamlessly and beautifully integrated.
Desigining your dream amp component by component is a breeze with BIAS Amp, and it’s even easier to take it out on tour loaded on BIAS Head or BIAS Rack. And when it’s time to record or practice in the comfort of your home or hotel room, your custom amps are still at your fingertip in your notebook and iPad.
